Portia Lee James DeGeneres, popularly known as her pseudonym Portia de Rossi, is an Australian-American model as well as a philanthropist and actor. She changed her name legally in the year 15years old, adopting her name from the Shakespearean play 'The Merchant of Venice', and then adopting the Italian title 'de Rossi', which she thought was beautiful. Portia feels that it was the most courageous thing she's done in her life and declared that the need to change her name due to her struggle about her sexual identity. Portia began her journey in the film industry by appearing in the romantic-comedy drama film "Sirens," starring Hugh Grant.
